GIZ SUPPORTS STOVE MANUFACTURERS ON CLEAN COOKSTOVES PRODUCTION

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in partnership with the International Centre for Energy, Environment and Development (ICEED) has just concluded the training of stove manufacturers on the production of various sizes of efficient wood stoves for rice parboiling. The trained manufacturers will produce and supply at least 450 clean cookstoves to rice processing individuals, groups and cooperatives in Niger State. The trained manufacturers include Roshan Global Services Ltd,Nenu Stoves and SOSAI Renewable Energies Company.

This capacity building programme is part of the Clean Cooking Intervention of the Nigeria Energy Support Programme (NESP) being jointly implemented by GIZ and Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing. NESP aims to create a market for improved rice parboiling stoves in Niger State.

The programme built the capacity of participants on the design and production of highly efficient clay/bricks and metal/bricks institutional and agro-processing woodstoves.

“The programme has increased my understanding in the principles of designing highly efficient institutional woodstoves. Before now, I used to think institutional woodstoves were difficult to design and produce. Now my perception has changed. I will take the technologies we learnt beyond Niger State” said Happy Amos; a female stove entrepreneur and a beneficiary of the stove production training.

The training was hosted by the ICEED Resource Centre, Afikpo (IRECA) – Nigeria’s leading renewable energy education centre.
